P-Type or N-Type? Which solar panel is better? Understand the complete mathematics before applying it on the roof.

Nowadays, solar panels have emerged as a new and popular source of electricity. Due to the government’s solar mission, the load on the traditional power grid is reducing due to the electricity generated from solar panels. This is the reason why people are installing solar panels on the roofs of their houses, so that the electricity bill comes to nil. However, the cost of installing solar system is high, due to which the government is also giving subsidy on it. If you also want to install solar panels on the roof of your house, then you should know about its type and capacity.

P-Type and N-Type Solar Panels

These days, two types of solar panels are available in the market – P type and N type. Both these panels work on different technologies, due to which there is a difference in their price and capacity. Let us know about which of these two panels you should choose….

P-Type In solar panels, a chemical reaction occurs between silicon and boron, due to which electricity is generated. You will easily get this solar panel in the market. There itself, N type In solar panels, there is a chemical reaction of phosphorus with silicon. These solar panels are not easily available. Only a select few companies manufacture N-type solar panels.

Which solar panel is better?

The boron used in P-type solar panels reacts with oxygen present in the air to create boron-oxygen defects. Due to this defect, LID i.e. Light Induced Degradation is created in the solar panel, which reduces the efficiency of the panel i.e. permanent degradation. As soon as a P type solar panel is exposed to sunlight for the first time, LID is created in it. For this reason, its performance gradually reduces with time.

N-type solar panels do not contain boron, due to which the LID is only nominal, due to which its efficiency remains intact even when it gets old. Once installed a P-type panel can generate good power for 10 years. At the same time, with N type panel you can generate electricity for at least 12 years. Because there is little degradation in these, they can be used for a long time.

Which solar panel to install at home?

Talking about the performance of P type and N type solar panels, you get better power generation in N type. Also, it can be used for a long time. However, its price is much higher than the P type. N type solar panels are especially used for commercial and power grids. At the same time, the capacity of P type panel is only 4% less than that of N type. Since they are affordable and easily available, installing them on the roofs of houses can prove beneficial.
