The washing machine used at home also consumes a large amount of electricity. These days, semi and fully automatic as well as front load and top load design washing machines are available in the market. Automatic washing machines are more popular among people than semi-automatic ones. Once clothes are put in these, there is no need to touch them again.
These machines automatically clean the clothes by taking water and then dry them later. In a front load washing machine, clothes are inserted from the front, while in a top load washing machine, clothes are inserted from the top. Most of the front load washing machines available in the market work on inverter and direct drive i.e. DD technology. Because of this these machines consume less electricity. Also, they do not use much water. According to experts, it consumes 40 to 50 percent less water than a traditional top load washing machine.
BLDC motor is used in it, which runs on DC i.e. direct current. This motor spins fast and cleans the clothes quickly. Besides, clothes also dry quickly in it. Due to its fast operation, it uses less water and electricity.

Top load washing machine uses AC i.e. alternating current motor, which consumes more electricity than BLDC technology. Also, the drum has to be completely filled with water, due to which it draws a large amount of water. Due to excess water, its tub becomes heavy, which requires a more powerful motor to run it. In this, an agitator is installed in the middle of the drum, which sometimes gets the clothes entangled while rotating rapidly.
Which washing machine to buy?
If your budget is low, then you should blindly buy a top load washing machine. It is up to 30% cheaper than a front load washing machine. However, if your budget is high then you can buy a front load washing machine. In this, you can save 5 to 10 units of electricity every month as compared to top load.
